Why Is Sojourn’s “The Water And The Blood” Available On Vinyl?
The digital revolution has given us a many good things. I am a big fan of iTunes, an owner of multiple iPods and iPhones, and I have a computer full of digital music. Every record I’ve ever been a part of has taken advantage of the tools that digital media has provided, and I’m thankful for it. CD’s revolutionized the music world, providing a medium that was essentially degredation-free and highly portable. But it came at a price: ultimately, a choice had to be made between audio quality and portability. 16-bit audio allowed a CD to contain about 70 minutes … Read Entire Post
Things Got A Little Weird While Recording “The Water And The Blood: The Hymns Of Isaac Watts, Volume Two”
Recording can be an exhausting experience. It might sound like fun – making music all day, playing guitar, etc… – but in truth, it requires a tremendous amount of mental and emotional focus. And sometimes, it takes a little dancing. Here, Brooks Ritter demonstrates the kind of skill, focus, and discipline that is required in the studio.

Keith Getty On Songwriting: Which Comes First, Music Or Lyrics? and more questions
Last week I met many of you at the 2011 National Conference of the Gospel Coalition. Sojourn led a hymn sing on Tuesday night, along with Sandra McCracken, Melanie Penn and members of Indelible Grace and Bifrost Arts. We also hosted a booth throughout the week, and were blessed by the conference sessions. One such session I attended was Keith Getty’s songwriting workshop, so I thought I’d pass along Getty’s answers to the questions many of you have probably asked: Why are the Gettys and Stuart Townend classified as hymn writers, rather than songwriters? Pre-Order “The Water And The Blood: The Hymns Of Isaac Watts, Vol. 2″ Now!
Several years ago, I noticed how many Isaac Watts songs were being sung at Sojourn. Sandra McCracken had written two songs that were in heavy rotation in our services – “I Boast No More” and “Laden With Guilt”, both of which were texts written by Watts. At the time, I didn’t have a deep love for hymns. I liked hymn texts, though I viewed them with a certain amount of suspicion. Planting Sojourn, and leading the worship ministry, had required a certain amount of “worship war” with folks who’d have had us become a traditional worship ministry – piano, organs, … Read Entire Post
