Welcome to sojournmusic.com’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can find links to the to the set lists of this church and many other churches each week in the Worship Blog Carnival at theworshipcommunity.com. And you can learn about some of the songs we sing at Sojourn Gathered each week in advance of the Sunday service by reading my “Getting Ready For Sunday” post each Thursday at Sojourn’s online journal, TravelBlog.
Prelude: Faithful written by Pastor Mike Cosper, founder of Sojourn Music. You can hear “Faithful” on our Psalm-based record These Things I Remember.
Call to Worship:
Today is Pentecost – a day that celebrates the Holy Spirit descending upon God’s people and when the first Gospel sermon was preached. Simply put, today is the anniversary of the church. It’s a day for us to express our thankfulness that God dwells with His people. Let’s stand and let God’s word call us to worship
The love of God has been poured into our hearts
through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us;
we dwell in him and he in us.
Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples.
Sing to him, sing praises to him,
and speak of all his marvelous works.
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty,
who was and is and is to come!
—based on Psalm 105:1-2; Romans 5:5; Revelation 4:8
Song: Come and Sing written by Sojourn’s Jeremy Quillo. “Come and Sing” is the call to worship song on our liturgically-themed album Before The Throne.
Song: Lord, Let Your Glory Fall written by Matt Redman.
Confession:
It’s the Holy Spirit that works in our hearts and minds to reveal to us the Good News only found in the Bible. Pray with me:
God, Your Word is like a lamp shining in the darkest places, and it provides us with the necessary guidance that we need every day of our lives.
Help us to pay close attention to it. We confess that we often turn to our own understanding,
but we know understanding apart from You always fails.
Thank You for speaking to us through Your Word and Your Spirit.
-Based on 2 Peter 1:16-21
Song: Shine Into Our Night written by Joel Sczebel of Sovereign Grace Music.
Assurance/Peace:
The Holy Spirit works in our hearts to continuously show us that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection accomplished the reconciling work that we could never accomplish.
Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory. You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.
-1 Peter 1:21-22
Welcome one another, remembering your calling as brothers and sisters.
Giving

Song: O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing the classic hymn written by Charles Wesley.
Reading:
Jesus tells us that we are not left alone to our own devices as God’s children:
The Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again.
-John 14:26-28a
Song: Awesome God (Your Voice) written by Vicky Beeching.
Song: Whom Have I in Heaven written by Isaac Watts & Sojourners Brooks Ritter and Rebecca Elliott. You can hear this on our double EP project The War/The Mercy Seat.
Benediction:
…be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Peace be with you.
-Ephesians 5:18b-20
