Welcome to sojournmusic.com’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap.  You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led following the Call To Worship, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can find links to the to the set lists of this church and many other churches each week in the Worship Blog Carnival at theworshipcommunity.com. And you can learn about some of the songs we sing at Sojourn Gathered each week in advance of the Sunday service by reading my “Getting Ready For Sunday” post each Thursday at Sojourn’s online journal, TravelBlog.

Call To Worship:
It can be a fearful thing to imagine meeting God. We imagine scenes like in “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, when God’s presence melts faces off. But in Christ, God tells us that we’re both welcome to meet Him and safe in His presence. Hear the word of the Lord:

The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.
The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.
All your works praise you, LORD; your faithful people praise you.
They tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might,
so that all people may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.
The LORD upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.

- Psalm 145: 8-14

Let’s sing out and praise Him for His faithfulness!

Song: King of Glory written by Chris Tomlin, inspired by Psalm 24.

Confession:
Heavenly Father, we know that when you make a promise you keep it.
But we fail in our efforts to follow you.
Forgive us Lord for failing to keep our promises to you.

In Jesus, you make us your people, but we are quick to forget who we are.
We forget that you are our Father, Christ is our brother and the church is our family.
Forgive us Lord for failing to keep our promises to each other.

Lord Jesus, we know that when we are faithless, your promises to us are unbroken
Lord, have mercy on us. Though we are broken creatures who fail time after time, may the word you have spoken prevail over our sin and unbelief. Amen.

Song: Begone Unbelief written by John Newton and our friend Kevin Twit, RUF pastor and founder of Indelible Grace.

Assurance:
Despite our brokenness, God fulfills his promise to love us and make us whole in Jesus:

All of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.
It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.

- 2 Corinthians 1:20-22

Song: Great Is Thy Faithfulness written by Thomas O. Chisholm and William M. Runyan.

Passing of Peace
God calls us to commit our lives to Him and to be part of his family. So we are committed to each other as a church. Our desire is to be a family marked by love and trust. In that spirit, let’s welcome each other here today.

Song: Grace Upon Grace written by Sandra McCracken. This was our Communion song this week at Sojourn Gathered.

Song: Approach My Soul, The Mercy Seat written by John Newton and Jamie Barnes. This is one of the songs on last year’s double EP project, The Mercy Seat/The War. You can listen to “Approach My Soul, The Mercy Seat” in full here.

Reading:
We are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For we are all one in Christ Jesus. And now that we belong to Christ, we are the true children of Abraham. We are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to us. - Galatians 3:26-29

Song: Fellowship So Deep written by Aaron Senseman and Kinley Lange.

Benediction: May you go with a renewed faith in the promises of God and renewed commitment to live as his child. Peace be with you.

  1. Summer Schmitz says:

Is there a way to be a part of the music? I play guitar, bass, and a little drums. I’d love to be a part of this. My family and I have been attending Sojourn for a little over a month and will be attending Membership Classes soon. I really have a passion for Christ and worshiping by music.

  2. sojourn says:

Hi Summer. We are going to hold open auditions for musicians/vocalists for the Sojourn worship bands on March 21, from 7-9pm. We’ll have more details and a registration link soon. The auditions are held at our Midtown campus, but members (and members-in-process) at all campuses are encouraged to attend.

  3. Gedion says:

I know you are doing great job so keep doing it meanwhile I want to say pray for me.
