Get ready for this Friday, 7pm at Memorial Auditorium, 970 S. Fourth Street for an event three years in the making — the culmination of our Isaac Watts Project.
In 2009 we released Over The Grave: The Hymns Of Isaac Watts, Volume One, a high-energy indie rock album featuring 11 songs adapted from the hymns of the “Father Of English Hymnody,” Isaac Watts. Now this Friday we’re releasing The Water And The Blood: The Hymns Of Isaac Watts, Volume Two. The 12 songs on this record explore Americana roots music and themes of sin and redemption, the cross, God’s sovereignty and Christ’s ultimate victory over death, hell and Satan.
This is a massive, collaborative effort led by Pastor Mike Cosper and featuring many songwriters, singers and musicians from our albums like Over The Grave and Before The Throne, while adding some new faces. We hope you’ll enjoy it, and we hope that you’ll experience it first-hand with us Friday night.
The band will play every song from the album, some of which are already familiar to you and some which will be brand new. This Good Friday event is a “Hymn Sing,” so we’ll have all the words on the screen for you to sing along. Memorial Auditorium is big enough for all Sojourners and for any of our out-of-town friends who would like to come. Of course, after the hymn sing we’ll have plenty copies of the physical CD on sale for $12.
Join us! No tickets required for this free Good Friday Hymn Sing.
The album releases nationally on mp3 download and CD formats Tuesday, April 26th. You can pre-order now, and you can also pre-order it on vinyl (the vinyl record format will ship in May).
