Allen P. Ross On True Worship and the "Secular Life"

“There is no secular life for devout worshippers, not for those who in genuine humility (Phil. 2:5-11) make pleasing God their goal (2 Cor. 5:9).  They are filled with joy in their worship and ready to meet the needs of others (Heb. 13:15-16).  For the devout, every moment is an opportunity for the spiritual life.

“But when pride takes over and selfish ambition is the rule of the day so that the needs of the community are ignored, then the words of the prophetic rebukes and warnings that first came to Israel resound in our sanctuaries as well: God still rejects such worship and warns that if it does not change he will remove the witness (Rev. 2-3).”
