Welcome to sojournmusic.com’s weekly worship music set list review.  You can find links to the set lists of this church and many other churches each week in the Worship Blog Carnival at theworshipcommunity.com. And you can learn about some of the songs we sing at Sojourn Gathered each week in advance of the Sunday service by reading my “Getting Ready For Sunday” post each Thursday at Sojourn’s online journal, TravelBlog. This set list recap begins with the first song following the Call To Worship (our sets often begin with a pre-Call To Worship song that is “band leader’s choice,” and so is different in each campus).  Some additional variations in the music sets may have taken place in each service/campus.

1. On Jordan’s Stormy Banks I Stand hymn text by Samuel Stennett; contemporary melody by Christopher Miner.

On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand

And cast a wishful eye

To Canaan’s fair and happy land

Where my possessions lie

2. Over Death by Sojourn’s Jesse Eubanks, Neil Robins and Joel Gerdis, adapted from “Hymn 17″ by Isaac Watts.  We recorded this for Over The Grave: The Hymns Of Isaac Watts, Volume One.  You can view the “Over Death” chord sheet on our Over The Grave page, here at sojournmusic.com.

Where is your boasted victory, grave?

Where is the monster’s sting?

3. Abide With Me hymn text written by Henry Lyte.  Modern melody and arrangement by Justin Smith.  We sang this as a way of corporately confessing our dependence on Christ for our security, salvation, and triumph over the grave, before we engaged in the Passing Of The Peace and Pastor Brian Howard’s sermon on joy and peace from Philippians 4:

Hold thou Thy cross before my closing eyes

Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies

Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee

In life, in death, Lord, abide with me

Also prior to the sermon, Pastor Brian called two couples on stage who are leaving the Sojourn community to be a part of a church plant in Philadelphia.  Church planting is in our blood, so it’s always exciting to send brothers and sisters out on mission, wherever that may be.

4. Be Still My Soul by Katherina A. vonSchlegel and Jean Sibelius.  This week we sang “Be Still My Soul” as our Communion hymn, following the sermon:

Be still my soul, thy God doth undertake

To guide the future as He has the past

Your hope, your confidence let no thing shake

All now mysterious shall be bright at last

5. There Is A Peace by Sojourn’s Charlie Richardson.  We recorded this on 2007′s Before The Throne album.  You can hear it in its entirety on the audio player at Facebook.com/sojournmusic, and you can view the lyrics and chords of “There Is A Peace” on the Before The Throne page here at sojournmusic.com.

There is a peace to settle your soul

There is a peace that is calling you home

There is a peace, perfect and true

The Prince of peace is calling for you

6. Mourning Into Dancing by Sojourn’s Jeremy Quillo.  You can view the lyrics/chord sheet and listen to the entire “Mourning Into Dancing” mp3 from the These Things I Remember page here at sojournmusic.com.  We sang this as our song for the Sending, just before blessing each other in our service-closing Benediction at Sojourn Gathered.

You turn our mourning into dancing

My sadness into laughter

My sorrow into joy — “Hallelujah!” is my song!
