Welcome to sojournmusic.com’s weekly worship music set list review. You can find links to the set lists of this church and many other churches each week in the Worship Blog Carnival at theworshipcommunity.com. And you can learn about some of the songs we sing at Sojourn Gathered each week in advance of the Sunday service by reading my “Getting Ready For Sunday” post each Thursday at Sojourn’s online journal, TravelBlog.

This set list comes from the morning services at the Midtown campus. Slight variations may have taken place during the other services.

1. Invitacion Fountain written by Michael Pritzl of The Violet Burning. We had begun with a Call To Worship from Psalm 147:1-45, acknowledging God’s greatness and goodness. This song is a good follow-up to the Call To Worship, and actually functions in parts as the Call (from God: “Let all who are weak …”) and the response (from us: “If You lead me Lord, I will follow …”).
After a prayer of confession, we sang:
2. Merciful God by Stuart Townend and Keith & Kristyn Getty. This song acknowledges our dependence on God’s mercy:
Merciful God, O abounding in love,
Faithful to keep us from falling;
Guiding our ways with Your fatherly heart,
Growing our faith with each testing.

3. We Are Changed by Dave Moisan, me (Bobby Gilles) and Neil Robins. You’ll find this song on the latest Sojourn worship album, Over The Grave. You can also hear this song in full as the background song for the Sojourn “I Want New” photo gallery project, if you’re reading this on a Flash-compatible device. Check out “We Are Changed” and the photo gallery here — it’s a member-wide collaborative photo project that documents all of the places in the Louisville area where Sojourners long to see gospel renewal or change.
4. Sovereign Grace O’er Sin Abounding hymn text by John Kent, with contemporary melody by Sandra McCracken. We used this as our communion hymn this week. You can read the lyrics, download an mp3 sample and both lead sheet and chord chart at the Indelible Grace website.
What from Christ that soul can sever,
Bound by everlasting bands?
Once in Him, in Him for ever;
Thus the eternal covenant stands.
None shall take Thee
From the Strength of Israel’s hands.

5. Deep In Our Hearts by Sojourn’s Mike Cosper, Brooks Ritter and Joel Gerdis, based off the Isaac Watts hymn “Deep In Our Hearts Let Us Record.” You’ll hear this one when we release the Isaac Watts Project, Part Two. It’s characteristically Watts, in the sense that he can say so completely tie in the suffering of Christ with the satisfaction of God’s wrath against us, through that suffering, in just 32 syllables — four lines of iambic tetrameter:
The pangs of our expiring Lord
The honors of thy law restored;
His sorrows made thy justice known,
And paid for follies not his own.

6. Our Great God by Mac Powell and Fernando Ortega. This is one of those songs that we’ve sang for most of our existence, here in Louisville. It’s a triumphant, declarative song of praise with which to close a worship service:
Hallelujah! Glory be to our great God!
