Welcome to the Easter edition of sojournmusic.com’s weekly worship music set list review. You can find links to the set lists of this church and many other churches each week in the Worship Blog Carnival at theworshipcommunity.com. And you can learn about some of the songs we sing at Sojourn Gathered each week in advance of the Sunday service by reading my “Getting Ready For Sunday” post each Thursday at Sojourn’s online journal, TravelBlog. Photos by Dan Canales. We’ll have more photos of Easter Sunday at the East campus — including the Sojourn cookout and children’s Easter Egg Hunt — later this week at TravelBlog.

This set list report comes from the 10am service at our East campus. Other services contained slight variations and song substitutions. Photos taken from the 9am service at the Midtown campus.

1. Resurrection Hymn (See What A Morning) by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend. This is one of my personal favorite Getty/Townend songs. You can check out a live version of “See What A Morning” from the Keith & Kristyn Getty band on their YouTube channel.
One with the Father, Ancient of Days,
Through the Spirit who clothes faith with certainty.
Honor and blessing, glory and praise
To the King crowned with pow’r and authority!
And we are raised with Him,
Death is dead, love has won, Christ has conquered;
And we shall reign with Him,
For He lives: Christ is risen from the dead!

2. Beautiful Savior (All My Days) by Stuart Townend. This one has been in the Sojourn Music repertoire since the early days of our church. We’ve always loved singing it as a song of adoration and worship:
Beautiful Savior, Wonderful Counselor
Clothed in majesty, Lord of history
You’re the Way, the Truth, the Light
Star of the morning, glorious in holiness
You’re the Risen One, heaven’s Champion
And You reign You reign over all

3. He’s Alive by Don Fransisco. Most people probably no this song due to Dolly Parton’s version (hear “He’s Alive” by Dolly Parton for free at Last.fm). The song is told from the perspective of Peter, and thus takes some clever poetic license, but it is a stunning, dramatic depiction of the resurrection morning events.
But suddenly the air was filled
With a strange and sweet perfume
Light that came from everywhere
Drove shadows from the room
And Jesus stood before me
With His arms held open wide
And I fell down on my knees
And I just clung to Him and cried

4. In Christ Alone by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend, arguably the most famous contemporary hymn. This ballad of Christ’s mission and victory has everything you could ask for in a song of praise. It’s fitting for many occasions, but perhaps none more so than an Easter Sunday service:
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave he rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine -
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

Following this song and the Passing Of The Peace, Lead Pastor Daniel Montgomery preached our Easter sermon at both the East and Midtown Louisville campuses. He took his text from Luke 15, the story of the Prodigal Son.

5. Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing the timeless hymn by Robert Robinson and John Wyeth. This was our East hymn for communion.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;
How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.

6. There Is A Peace by Sojourn’s Charlie Richardson. This was our “song of assurance” on the liturgically-themed Before The Throne record. You can download the chord sheet from the Before The Throne page here at sojournmusic.com, and listen to the “There Is A Peace” mp3 at Last.fm.
Come weary and tired, and worn out from life
Step out of the shadows and walk into Light.

7. Absent From Flesh by Sojourn’s own Jamie Barnes, adapted from the Isaac Watts text “Absent From Flesh, O Blissful Thought.” A great song to end a worship service. From the first time we sang this song here in Louisville, we’ve rattled the rafters with “Absent From Flesh.” The band will record it on our next worship CD later this year (Part Two of our Isaac Watts project). This song tells about what awaits the Christian after death, thanks to the victory that Jesus achieved over hell and the grave.
I go where God and glory shine
to one eternal day
this failing body I now resign,
for the angels point my way
