Biggest Collaborative/Joint Art-Music Event Yet

Recently I told you about a big CD release party coming to The 930 Art Center, Sojourn’s community center (and part of our Midtown campus).  This free concert features Dirt Poor Robins, who will be debuting their new album Last Days of Leviathan. Dave Moisan will open for DPR.  Dave is a singer-songwriter who played a major part on our Over The Grave and Advent Songs albums.  Dirt Poor Robins’ members Neil and Kate Robins did so as well.

This will be a fantastic night of music.  In fact, if you missed the podcast interview I conducted with Neil Robins, check it out at iTunes.  The interview includes the world premier of two songs from their new album.

But that’s not all that’s going down for free at The 930 from 7 to 10pm, Friday February 26.

The Prayer & Wisdom art exhibit is the biggest project Sojourn has ever taken on with the Visual Arts.  Over 15 Sojourn artists have been working for months preparing for this exhibit.

Prayer & Wisdom is a visual response to the books of Psalms and Proverbs.  The work that has gone into this is comparable to a Sojourn CD release, and we’re very proud of our visual artists.  Check out all the details at the930.org.

A synopsis:

The ‘Prayer’, or Psalms, portion of the exhibition features more than twenty large and small-scale installation projects conceived and created by Sojourn Visual Arts …

These works are at times simple, and at times complex. Reflecting the very nature of the Psalms themselves, the works occupy a visual space that is at once both literal and metaphoric. Feathered wings hanging from the ceiling cast a shadow inviting reflection on both celestial beings and the bone structure of nature’s aviators. A bed cloaked in astro-turf at once invites comfort and questions our modern attempts to harness and recreate nature’s ubiquitous forms …

The ‘Wisdom’, or Proverbs portion of the exhibit features more than 100 illustrations of biblical proverbs. Sojourn Visual Arts invited individual artists, classes, and churches around the country to explore the rich wisdom of the proverbs and respond by making images on 4×6 project panels. The entries are displayed together in the gallery to demonstrate the diversity of topics in proverbs and the diversity of responses to its wisdom. These illustrations were completed by children and adults.
