Shortly after I published “Getting Ready For Sunday,” our weekly preview of the upcoming Sojourn Gathered worship service (which we post on TravelBlog, Sojourn’s online journal), Worship Pastor Mike Cosper updated our liturgy to include a time of lament for the people of Haiti. Join us this Sunday as we’ll pray together right at the beginning of the service, read from the Psalms, and sing “From The Depths.”
Our own Jeremy Quillo wrote “From The Depths,” recorded on our These Things I Remember album. You can hear the “From The Depths” mp3 for free right here. As you listen, reflect on the words of this psalm-based worship song, and how it applies to the tragedy in Haiti as well as to your own life:
Oh, Savior of mine, I’m longing to find
The place where Your heart meets with mine
This valley I’ve seen, too dark and too deep,
Too big for my faith and too far for my feet,
So I ask “How long will you hide Your face
From Your child who desperately wants to see?”
And I ask “How long must I wait for Your hand?”
But I’ll wait, no matter how long, I will wait, I will wait …
From the depths I cry
In the darkest night
Of my soul, though I know
Your light will still break through.
Oh, Father of mine, give light to my eyes
My spirit is wounded and blind
In Your hands I am safe, no longer a slave
As the enemy falls at the sound of Your name
Bridge: I will trust in Your unfailing love
And rejoice that my Savior has come
