This set list is one of many that you can find at the worship music set list blog carnival at fredmckinnon.com, featuring many different kinds of churches. You can learn about some of the songs we sing at Sojourn Gathered each week in advance of the Sunday service by reading my “Getting Ready For Sunday” post each Friday at Sojourn’s online journal, TravelBlog. Photos this week taken by Dan Canales.
1. Abbeville lyrics by Benjamin Beddone, music by Liz Janes. This is a petition for the Holy Spirit to renew us and form us — a good tone to begin with in a worship service.
O melt this frozen heart;
this stubborn will subdue;
each evil passion overcome, and form me all anew!

2. All Creatures Of Our God And King the famous hymn by Francis of Assisi. This is another good song for the beginning of a worship service. It directs our praise to the only One who is worthy of it:
Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One!O praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
3. Be Thou My Vision the traditional Irish hymn of anonymous origin. This is another petition-in-song, asking the Lord to illuminate our minds:
Be thou my vision,
Oh Lord of my heart.
Naught be all else to me,
Save that thou art.
Thou my best thought
By day or by night.
Waking or sleeping,
Thy presence my light.

4. Majesty by Martin Smith and Stuart Gerrard. This song of adoration contains one of my favorite lyrics — not only a clever turn-of-phrase but one of those lines that says a lot in just a few words:
Your grace has found me just as I am — empty-handed, but alive in Your hands
5. Fall On The Rock by Buddy and Julie Miller. Buddy and Julie often provide a perspective that is thoroughly biblical but seldom expressed in contemporary worship songs.
There’s a time a coming soon
And it’s a day coming fast
God will make the last the first
And the first will be last
6.Rock Of Ages (When The Day Is Long) by Kevin Twit and Sandra McCracken. This is one of many solid tunes from McCracken’s CD The Builder And The Architect. A couple weeks ago when she came here, she told us that she’s working on a brand new worship project. That’s going to be one to look for.
Rock of Ages, “It is done,” You cried
The curtain’s torn and I see justice satisfied
Now write Your mercy here on my heart and hands
Rock of Ages, in faith I stand

7. Great And Mighty by Aaron Senseman and Cliff Young (of Caedmon’s Call). We’ve used this in several different parts of our worship gatherings. Here, it was the song for the Sending. Using it this way gave us the chance to proclaim together the truth of God’s power and the grace in His plan:
You are great and mighty, God, clothed in majesty.
You set us apart; You set us free
When you captured our hearts …
You are great and mighty.
