This set list is one of many that you can find at the worship music set list blog carnival at fredmckinnon.com, featuring many different kinds of churches. Photos by Ryan Harvey, taken during our 11:15 a.m. Germantown service.
1. Abide With Me, text by Henry Lyte, new arrangement by Justin Smith of Indelible Grace. We began with this hymn, before the Call To Worship:
Abide
 with
 me;
 fast falls
the
eventide;
The darkness
deepens;
 Lord
 with
 me
 abide.
When
other
helpers
fail,
and
 comforts flee
Help
of
the
helpless,
 abide
 with
me.
2. The God Who Saves, by Caedmon’s Call. This is a personal favorite of mine. Each part of the song is a concrete reminder of the difference between our God and the false gods of the world. This is the God who saves, who entered time and redeemed His people:
There is truth in His body raised that third day
there is joy in the stone rolled away
there is hope pouring out of the tomb where He lay
pouring out pouring over the grave
3. Here Is Love, by William Rees, Robert Lowry, arranged with new chorus by Matt Redman. (the evening services substituted the hymn “There Is A Fountain” here). This song provided a great frame of reference for our baptisms. This Sunday we witnessed eight baptisms at Sojourn Gathered, hearing their testimonies and witnessing their public identification with Christ and His church.
On the mount of crucifixion
Fountains opened deep and wide
Through the floodgates of God’s mercy
Flowed a vast and gracious tide
4. Amen, Amen, by Sojourn’s Neil and Kate Robins, based on the Isaac Watts’ hymn “Jesus Shall Reign.” You can read the lyrics and chords, and even hear the mp3, from the Advent Songs page right here at sojournmusic.com. Of course we sing this frequently during the Advent and Christmas seasons, but it’s suitable all year long as a communion hymn and a celebration of assurance in our savior.
5. Solid Rock, by Edward Mote and William Bradbury. This song establishes the ground on which we stand — Christ, our solid rock — and concludes with a look to the Second Coming:
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
6. Absent From Flesh, by Isaac Watts and Sojourn’s Jamie Barnes. We continued the theme of a Christian’s final reward: to live in God’s sight and enjoy Him forever, with this great song, which will be on Volume Two of our Isaac Watts project.
Absent from flesh, O Glorious day!
In one triumphant stroke
My reckoning paid, my charges dropped
and the bonds ’round my hands are broke.I go where God and glory shine,
To one eternal day
This failing body I now resign,
For the angels point my way.
For the angels point my way.
Here is a home video of Sojourn’s performance of this song earlier this year at Re:Sound in Durham, North Carolina (at The Summit Church):
