Aradhna – Worship from North India

Sojourn Worship & Arts Pastor Mike Cosper on Indian band Aradnha, who will be in Louisville this Tuesday the 29th for a lecture and concert at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary: A few years ago, Jesse Eubanks handed me a stack of CD’s by a group called Aradnha, and I was blown away. A group of missionaries had created a distinct and beautiful blend of western and Indian folk music. The texts were rich with the gospel, and the music was gorgeous. Aradnha represents the kind of contextualization that all of us should be doing. These are musicians who have come …« Read Entire Post

PHOTO BLOG: Derek Webb At The 930 – Opening Night Of The "Black Eye Tour"

Derek Webb and Sandra McCracken came to Sojourn’s campus in Louisville’s Germantown neighborhood last Thursday, The 930 Art Center.  This was the second time we’ve had the pleasure of hosting these compelling singer-songwriters. After McCracken opened with a set of her own, Webb launched his “Black Eye Tour,” in support of his brand new album “Stockholm Syndrome.” Sojourn’s Chuck Heeke was on hand to capture this event in the series of photos you see below: Sandra McCracken opens. Derek Webb kicks off the “Black Eye Tour”

Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs: Sojourn's Worship Music Set List, 9-20-2009

This set list is one of many that you can find at the worship music set list blog carnival at fredmckinnon.com, featuring many different kinds of churches.  Slight variations to this Sojourn set list may have taken place in each individual service. 1. Great And Mighty , by Caedmon’s Call.  We’ve done this song a lot over the past two or three years.  It’s a good song for setting the tone of a worship service: You are great and mighty God Clothed in Majesty You set us apart and you set us free When you captured our hearts You are great …« Read Entire Post

Look At That Big 'Ol Universal Media Bar On Top Of Our Page

So, Sojourn has a lot of thriving ministries.  Many of these ministries have their own home on the web, just like we musical folks here at sojournmusic.com.  In addition, David Yeiser at Design Intellection designed a wonderful home site for us this summer, the new-and-improved sojournchurch.com. We recognize that it’s a bit hard to remember all of these sites.  So, Mr. Yeiser has come through for us again with a Universal Media Bar that runs across the top of all our satellite sites.  Check it out here at sojournmusic.com.  When you hover your mouse over the thin “Sojourn Community Church” …« Read Entire Post

Watch Your Mouth, pt 1, by Jamie Barnes

One of several good changes you’ll see to sojournmusic.com over the next month is a move towards a more regular multi-blogger format. I will still blog the worship set lists on Mondays and occasional other features, while blogging and managing content for our church home page, sojournchurch.com and our online journal, TravelBlog. Meanwhile, expect to see more posts from our worship ministry leaders, like this one from Worship & Arts Pastoral Assistant Jamie Barnes: I used to hate it when people would openly correct my grammar. My southern upbringing often rears its ugly head in informal conversation. I remember a …« Read Entire Post

Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs: Sojourn's Worship Music Set List, 9-6-2009

This set list is one of many that you can find at the worship music set list blog carnival at fredmckinnon.com, featuring many different kinds of churches. Photos by Dan Canales, taken during our evening services. 1. Come Thou Fount, written by Robert Pinson.  All lyricists should study this: O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee. Pinson turns the usual metaphor for grace on its head.  In this stanza, rather than portray grace as something which frees us (which of course is true, and represented …« Read Entire Post

Next week at the 930 – Bill Mallonee

Sojourn Worship & Arts Pastor Mike Cosper speaks about a special evening at our Germantown campus, The 930 Art Center, with singer-songwriter Bill Mallonee: I’m excited to invite you all to the 930 Arts Center next Friday night for a gallery opening and concert/conversation with Bill Mallonee, formerly the front man for Vigilantes of Love. Fans of Louisville’s Public Radio station – WFPK – will be familiar with many of his tunes, as will readers of Paste, who have often listed him amongst our generation’s most important songwriters. Bill’s songs and lyrics have deep roots in the devils and dust …« Read Entire Post
