This set list is one of many that you can find at the worship music set list blog carnival at fredmckinnon.com, featuring many different kinds of churches. Photos here by Chuck Heeke. The first three are from the 10 a.m. service in St. Matthews, Louisville. The final three are from the 7 p.m. service in Germantown, Louisville.
1. Invitacion Fountain, written by Michael J. Pritzl of the Violet Burning. This is a good Call to Worship song. I like how the song starts out using biblical metaphors, and then it gives us a fresh one in verse two:
Let all who are weak,
All who are weary
Come to the Rock
Come to the Fountain
All who have sailed
On the rivers of heartache
Come to the sea
Come and be set free.
2. Laden With Guilt, And Full Of Fear, written by Isaac Watts. Contemporary melody by Sandra McCracken. We sang this one as a song of assurance in Christ to forgive sins and conquer our fears.
Laden with guilt and full of fears
I fly to Thee my Lord
And not a glimpse of hope appears
But in Thy written word
The volumes of my Father’s grace
Does all my grief’s assuage
Here I behold my Savior’s face
In every page
3. O Help My Unbelief, written by Isaac Watts, with modern melody by Justin Smith of Indelible Grace. You can find this on the latest Indelible Grace CD, Wake Thy Slumbering Children. This song has everything we love in an Isaac Watts hymn. It’s very colorful in its language, and uncompromising in its presentation of biblical truth:
Stretch out Thine arm, victorious King,
My reigning sins subdue;
Drive the old dragon from his seat,
With all his hellish crew.
A guilty, weak, and helpless worm,
On thy kind arms I fall;
Be thou my strength and righteousness,
My Jesus, and my all.
4. Here Is Love, written by William Rees and Robert Lowry, with contemporary chorus by Matt Redman. We sang this one as our communion hymn of the week, reflecting on the words as we came forward to take from the loaf of bread and the cup:
On the mount of crucifixion
Fountains opened deep and wide
Through the floodgates of God’s mercy
Flowed a vast and gracious tide
5. We Are Listening, written by Sojourn worship leader Jeremy Quillo. You can hear the mp3 and view the lyrics/chord sheet on our Before The Throne page. Also check out Jeremy’s “Story Behind The Song” here at sojournmusic.com. I remember when we all heard Jeremy’s demo of this song for the first time. It’s one of those songs that, when you hear it, you instantly love it.
Our sermon this week came from Nehemiah 8:1-18, which is all about how the people of God responded to the reading of the Word. There isn’t a more perfect song for such an occasion than “We Are Listening.”
6. Awesome God, written by Vicky Beeching. A great song as we begin the transition from being the church gathered to the church scattered. God is awesome. Even as we leave the building where we worship together as a family, He continues throughout the week to surround us with wonder and majesty:
Awesome God, Holy God
I worship you in wonder
Awesome God, Holy God
As You draw near I’m humbled
By Your majesty, and the mystery
of Your great love for me.
