This set list is one of many that you can find at the worship music set list blog carnival at fredmckinnon.com, featuring many different kinds of churches. Photos by Dan Canales.
1. Refuge, by Sojourn’s Neil Robins. Neil wrote this one based on the Isaac Watts hymn “Psalm 31, part one.” You can view the chord sheet (and hear this song in the background of our preview video) in our Over The Grave: The Hymns Of Isaac Watts, Volume One page.
Our sermon this week came from the Book of Job, so our songs, including “Refuge,” allowed us to rehearse together our need for God as well as the assurance from Him that He is our refuge, no matter what the situation looks like.
2. From The Depths, by Sojourn’s Jeremy Quillo. This is another psalm-based worship song, written by the first worship songwriter to emerge from our community. You can hear the mp3 and view the lyric/chord sheet in our These Things I Remember page.
3. In The Shadow Of The Glorious Cross, by Sojourn’s Brooks Ritter and Rebecca Elliott. View the chord sheet and listen to the mp3 for “In The Shadow Of The Glorious Cross” from our Before The Throne page. You can also read a short interview with Brooks Ritter, where he describes the writing process behind this original song of assurance in the victory Christ won over sin and death on the cross.
4. In Christ Alone, by Stuart Townend and Keith Getty. This was our communion hymn for the week, as it has been for many of our communions over the years.
In Christ alone! – who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save:
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied –
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.
5. There Is A Peace, by Sojourn’s Charlie Richardson. You can view the chord/lyric sheet for “There Is A Peace” on our Before The Throne page, and hear the mp3 at Facebook.com/SojournMusic. “There is a peace to settle your soul” is a solid lyric, particularly in a week when we examined the book of Job during the sermon.
6. Blessed Be Your Name, by Matt Redman. Of course Redman took his text for this song directly from Job. It was a great song to send us out:
Every blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise.
And when the darkness closes in, Lord Still I will say;Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be Your name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
