Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs: Sojourn’s Music Set List For 7/5/2009

by Bobby Gilles on July 6, 2009

SJWT_070509_0003This set list is one of many that you can find at the worship music set list blog carnival at fredmckinnon.com, featuring many different kinds of churches.  Photos by Sojourn’s Dan Canales.

This week’s report will be short and sweet, for these reasons:

  • It’s been a holiday weekend
  • When I have worked, it’s been to tweak content and Resource uploads for the brand new sojournchurch.com, which you should check out now!  David Yeiser at designintellection.com built the site for us.  It’s an architectural marvel.  David is also on the team that redesigned the website for Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Anyway, while our site isn’t 100% finished (particularly the Resource section) it’s still amazing.

Now, on to our set list:

SJWT_070509_00021. Pride (Won’t Get Us Where We’re Going), by Thad Cockerll, a worship leader at our Acts 29 sister church in Raleigh, North Carolina: Vintage 21.  This set the stage for our sermon this week, which was based on the reforms of King Josiah, who humbled himself after finding the book of the Law and realizing how far Judah had fallen from the standards of God.

2. My Maker And My King, original hymn lyrics by Anne Steel, arranged and fitted with a driving blues-rock tune by Sojourn Worship & Arts Pastor Mike Cosper.  Hear the mp3 and view the chord sheet from our Before The Throne page.

SJWT_070509_00063. Psalm 3, by Sojourn’s own Rebecca Dennison (by way of Isaac Watts, by way of King David).  You’ll be able to hear this one on our next worship disc based on the work of Isaac Watts.

4. Warrior, by me Dave Moisan, Neil Robins and me (Bobby Gilles).  You can hear this at facebook.com/sojournmusic, view the chord sheet at our Over The Grave: The Hymns Of Isaac Watts, Volume One, and read the story behind the song here at sojournmusic.com as well.

SJWT_070509_00045. When The Savior Reached Down For Me, the classic gospel quartet hymn by G.E. Wright.  This was our Communion Hymn of the week: “I was lost and undone/ Without God our His Son/ When He reached down His hand for me.”

6. All My Tears, by Julie Miller.  Julie and her husband Buddy are fantastic songwriters, and this song by Julie is no exception:

Gold and silver blind the eye
Temporary riches lie
Come and eat from heaven’s store
Come and drink and thirst no more

SJWT_070509_00017. We Are Changed, by me (Bobby Gilles), Neil Robins and Dave Moisan — the same team who wrote “Warrior.”  You can also find this one on Over The Grave, and view the chord sheet from that page.

The evening band substituted “We Are Changed” for “Absent From Flesh,” by Sojourn’s Jamie Barnes.  This one will be a featured song on our next CD, subtitled The Hymns Of Isaac Watts, Volume Two (no title yet).
