This set list is one of many that you can find at the worship music set list blog carnival at fredmckinnon.com, featuring many different kinds of churches. Photos by Sojourn’s Dan Canales.
1. The World Will Know, by Sojourn Worship & Arts Pastor Mike Cosper and Brooks Ritter, based on Isaac Watts’ “Psalm 22 Part 2″,”At Thy Command Dearest Lord” and “The Wondrous Cross.” This one will be on part two of our Isaac Watts project, to be recorded later this year. Some lyrics:
Let the vain world pronounce it shame,
And mock our righteous cause
We come to boast our Savior’s name,
And triumph in his cross
With joy we tell the scoffing age,
He raised and left his tomb
He lives above their utmost rage,
Oh Come, Lord Jesus, Come
Oh Come, Lord Jesus, Come
2. Awesome God, by Vicki Beeching. This is one of the longest-running songs in the canon of Sojourn Gathered worship music. It puts the concepts of God’s transcendence and eminence in simple, poetic terms:
Your arms are the arms that
hung shining stars in deepest space
Your arms are the arms that
Surround me in a warm embrace
3. Lead Us Back, by me (Bobby Gilles) and Brooks Ritter. You can hear the mp3 and view the chord sheet from the Before The Throne page here on sojournmusic.com. We wrote this to be a strong song of corporate repentance for sins that the modern church is often guilty of, such as withdrawing from society, showing favoritism and casting stones.
4. I Boast No More, by Isaac Watts and Sandra McCracken. I’ve probably said this ten or twenty times on this blog, but this is one of my favorite songs. I love Sandra’s version, as well as the Caedmon’s Call version:
The best obedience of my hands
Dares not appear before Thy throne;
But faith can answer Thy demands,
By pleading what my Lord has done.
5. Holy, Holy, Holy by Reginald Heber. This was our Communion hymn of the week. We sing an arrangement similar to Sufjan Stevens’s take on this classic hymn of the Christian faith.
6. God Of Wonders, by Marc Byrd and Steve Hindalong. Many of you are familiar with “God of Wonders;” churches all across the world sing it each week. We haven’t done it at Sojourn Gathered in awhile, but it’s always a great song of praise and admiration — and a fine complement to “Holy, Holy, Holy” as well.
7. Lord Let Your Glory Fall, by Matt Redman. This is another song we’ve sung for most of Sojourn’s existence. Redman takes us back to Old Testament worship in the verses, which lead into the anthemic “You are good, You are good, and Your love endures” chorus:
Voices in unison,
Giving You thanks and praise
Joined by the instruments,
And then Your glory came
Your presence like a cloud,
Upon that ancient day,
The priests were overwhelmed,
Because Your glory came
The evening services substituted the first song for “Approach My Soul, The Mercy Seat” a hymn-reworking by Sojourn’s Jamie Barnes.
Come back here tomorrow for another mp3 from Over The Grave — a song called Warrior. Also, remember that we begin shipping orders for Over The Grave on Tuesday, and we’re hosting a free CD release party this Friday at Louisville’s largest church, Southeast Christian (in their brand new facility called “The Block,” on their main campus).
