Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and continues through for the forty days leading up to Easter (not counting Sundays).
See “What Every Christian Needs To Know About Ash Wednesday
Lent is about preparation. As the church of Christ, we’re preparing our hearts and minds for Good Friday and Easter, those days that mark Christ’s atonement for our sins and victory over Satan and death. These days carry a much greater significance when we’ve properly prepared for them and retraced Christ’s journey to the cross. Lent help us focus on why He had to die — why we needed a saviour.
Church fathers didn’t include Sundays within the forty days of Lent because each Sunday worship gathering is, itself, a celebration of the resurrection — what we call “The Lord’s Day.” However in practice, churches usually use these weekly corporate gatherings to increase awareness of Lent and to practice repentance and a confession of our shared dependence on Christ.

Over the next several Saturdays I’ll share readings for you, whether you’re looking for liturgical readings for your church congregation, personal reflections for your daily devotions, or prayers and scriptures for family worship times.
