Sojourn Music: The Year In Pictures. Really Cool Pictures. You Just Have To See

Each Monday on sojournmusic.com I write an inside look at our Sunday worship service liturgy and music set list, including commentary on the songs, lyrics and mp3s. I also share photos of Sojourn worship leaders from the services. Most weeks, these photos come from Sojourn member Dan Canales. Many sojournmusic.com readers have commented on the high quality of Dan’s work … so now for you, here is a selection of Dan’s 2008 Sojourn photos — including some that we’ve never published before.  Be sure to visit his Flickr page for for hundreds of great photos from Sojourn, the city of Louisville, weddings, engagements, nature, portraits, night shots and more.  Also check out his photo blog “Louisville On Two Wheels,” documenting our city’s bicyclists.

It’s an honor to be in ministry with Dan, and it’s also an honor to be in ministry with all of the guys and gals pictured below, and everyone else associated with Sojourn Music. These worship leaders dedicate countless hours to the craft of music, for the glory of God. They “sing the mighty power of God,” and they bring the song to the lips of all God’s people.

  1. Dan is a great photographer. He taught me everything I know about photography. :) I am really glad to see how God has been growing Dan and using him in ministry at Sojourn. Every time I talk to him, I hear the joy and desire in his heart to know God and live in genuine community with other believers.

  2. Jamie Barnes says:

    The Kingfish stage is “historic”?

  3. Bobby Gilles says:

Ah, you see — that riverfront Kingfish and the nearby watertower are Louisville landmarks. So from a local perspective, sure.

It’s like the Grand Ol’ Opry but with good hushpuppies and stuff.

  4. Bobby Gilles says:

Timmy, thanks for stopping by. Yeah, we’re blessed to have Dan. I think he’s going to step into handling the art direction for our quarterly print journal, too.

  5. Dude,
    where is Bobby Gilles?

  6. Bobby Gilles says:

LOL — I actually think about that, and it tickles me. Not only in conjunction with the photos on this site, but with the video intervies I do — I’m always holding the camera, so the viewer never actually sees me. You know what it reminds me of? Waylon Jennings on “The Dukes Of Hazard.” He sang that intro song every week, and all you could see was his guitar and his jeans.

Or Mr. Wilson from “Home Improvement.” Just a hat behind a fence.

But seriously, regarding the worship team pics — it’s because I’m not actually in the band. I’ve done that in the past, but I prefer songwriting and all the stuff I get to do through sojournmusic.com. And when I first arrived at Sojourn and heard how great everyone was on vocals and guitar (the instrument I “play”) my first thought was, “Yeah, I’m definitely going to stick to songwriting here.”
