Christmas is just weeks away. Courtesy of The Worship Sourcebook, here are a series of scriptures relating to this season where we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Read them to your children, preach them to yourself, share them in your small group, incorporate them into your Christmas and Advent worship services.Â
I’ve also included the recommended sections from classic confessions of the Christian faith (often known as “creeds”) that deal with the day and period of the Church Year known as Christmas (see my article “Why Do Christians Recite Creeds?” in the “Worship Practices Explained” series).Â
First though, Bible passages, from Psalms through Hebrews, from the prophets through the Gospels:
Psalm 97Â Â Â Â Psalm 98Â Â Â Â Psalm 147Â Â Â Â Psalm 148Â Â Â Â Isaiah 52:7-10Â Â Â Â Isaiah 61:10-62:12Â Â Â Â Isaiah 63:7-9
Jeremiah 31:7-14Â Â Â Â Matthew 1:18-2:23Â Â Â Â Luke 2Â Â Â Â John 1:1-18Â Â Â Â Galatians 4:4-7Â Â Â Â Ephesians 1:3-14
Ephesians 2:13-18Â Â Â Â Titus 2:11-14Â Â Â Â Titus 3:4-7Â Â Â Â Hebrews 1:1-12Â Â Â Â Hebrews 2:10-18

- Our Songs of Hope, st. 3

Much as I hate being pedantic, Gilles…
Creeds and confessions aren’t the same. Creeds are fairly short, pithy statements of basic beliefs, usually organized in a trinitarian format. Confessions are more comprehensive.
Roberts, are you lobbying for another guest blog post here on sojournmusic.com? “Of Creeds and Confessions.”
Point well taken, though.
Well, you know how much I love nitpicking… If you ever need an article on nitpicking, I’m the gal.
