There is more to worship leading than what goes on from a pulpit on Sunday mornings. Sojourn Worship Arts Pastor Mike Cosper and his merry crew have done many things over the years to teach a biblical, missional theology of worship, through sermons, a devotional, articles in our church newsletter (Travelogue) and here on sojournmusic.com, as well as lectures in our New Member classes, workshops and Bible studies of various kinds, and more. Here is something that Pastor Mike and worship leader Lorie King devised and sent to Sojourn members earlier in our brief (eight year) history. Through asking these kinds of questions, a worship arts ministry can “take the pulse” of the congregation and better know how to truly “lead” worship.
WORSHIP SURVEY QUESTIONS
 Describe a time of worship at Sojourn where you connected with God in an especially real and personal way. Indicate which, if any, element(s) or format of worship (song, prayer, sense of God’s spirit, sermon, kneeling, etc.) was a special means of connection for you.
 Describe a time of personal worship (on your own or with others) where you have connected with God.
 What has been most distracting to you during times of corporate worship?
 What do you think worship in heaven will be like? Set the scene.
 If you could design your ideal worship experience, what would it be like? What would it sound like? What would people do? What would people not do? Where would it be? What would be the focus?
 What has your experience of confession been like during times of corporate worship at Sojourn?
 If you were describing to someone outside our community what our Sunday times of worship are like and why we do what we do, what would you say?
 At an average Sunday service, how long does it take you to focus on being in the presence of God? Why?
 How do you experience God?
 What is God’s major role or characteristic in your walk with him right now (ie. who is God to you)?
 How does God comfort you?
 How are you encouraged to turn from sin?
 Name three of the songs that we do at Sojourn that really express your heart towards God or God’s heart towards you.

what a great way to “take the pulse”, great idea I may use it myself. We are always discussing which songs seem to lead the congregation into the deepest worship..trying to eliminate distractions etc.
