Video Of Sojourn Worship Band At LEAD Conference Performing "Solid Rock (My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less)"

This video comes to us from yesterday’s session of the LEAD conference in St. Louis, Missouri, posted on Youtube by Shane Montgomery, Lead Pastor of The River Community Church.  He’s featuring the video on his blog as well.  The blog also contains additional thoughts and information from LEAD, his personal story, and much more.

The video above captures Sojourn leading worship with a song we often do in our worship services here in Louisville: a modern arrangement of the classic hymn “Solid Rock (My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less)”.

Here are Edward Mote’s lyrics, written in 1834 (the hymn text was first paired with William Bradbury’s tune in 1863):

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

Sojourn band members featured on this video include:

Mike Cosper: lead guitar

Neil Robins: bass guitar

Alex O’Nan: drums

I’m told that acts29network.org and theresurgence.com will soon post archived videos from the main sessions at the Lead Conference, which featured several gifted, godly speakers, including our own Pastor Daniel Montgomery.

Join me tomorrow here on sojournmusic.com for part one of our new weekly series “Why Do Worship Leaders ____?” where we’ll examine the top ten pet peeves that people express about worship leaders.  I’ll be joined by a real live worship leader, caught in the wild.  In part one tomorrow, we’ll discuss:

Pet Peeve #1: When worship leaders ask the congregation to do things like raise and clap their hands or greet those near by, and when they try to pump the congregation with words like “Come on and make some noise!”
