Links Around The Web, And Then Back To Our Own Studio

studio.jpgIt’s a quiet day.  Sojourn worship arts pastor Mike Cosper is on his way to Michigan to, among other things, talk with John Witvliet and record some interviews with him for future broadcast on our Sojournmusic.com Radio podcast.  Dr. Witvliet has authored and edited several books on worship and written many articles for various publications.  He is the director of the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship and professor of music and worship at Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary.

In the meanwhile, Mike, pastoral assistant Jamie Barnes and others have been experimenting and laying down tracks on our new recording studio setup this week.  I recently stepped in there after the fellows took a lunch break and shot some video footage of their setup, showcasing a thingamabob, thingamajig, doohickie and some other equipment.  You can check it out on my Facebook page or Youtube.

I’ve run across some interesting posts in my RSS Feedreader this week, and I’d like to share them with you.  This is just a small sample of RSS feeds you can find at my public Netvibes reader (although I’m mostly using Google Reader now, since it works well with my Blackberry):

Timmy Brister writes about “Word-driven Movemental Christianity” in an in-depth article of interest to church planters and all who long for the spread of the gospel.

Jonathan Herron lists four foundations of leadership that are right on the money.

Joe Thorn has a good post (complete with journal diagram) about gospel-centered assimilation from the perspective of a church planter trying to figure out the best way to assimilate visitors.  Incidentally, Joe and fellow pastor Steve McCoy recently launched a cool new site called Sub.text, about ministering in a suburban context.   They’ve already posted many great articles.

Derek Brown has a short but pertinent post entitled “Proactive Leadership” that point out how often we Christians are on the defensive instead of proactively taking the message of the Kingdom to the world.

I’ve enjoyed several article recently at Vintage21 Worship by Matt Stevens.  This site is the web home for the worship arts ministry of Vintage 21, an Acts 29 church in North Carolina.

I’ve mentioned theworshipcommunity.com a few times.  This is a new site for and by worship leaders in churches big, small and in-between from all over the U.S. and around the world.  Sojourn worship leader Lorie King and I have published articles there, as have many bloggers who minister in the worship arts.  Ryan Egan has a great article there now called “Orchestrating an Effective Rehearsal.”  If you’re a music minister of any kind, looking to get more out of your rehearsals, check this out.

If you enjoy reading about what different churches sing on Sundays, founder of theworshipcommunity.com Fred McKinnon has been posting a “blog carnival” the first of every week that many church ministries, including this one, have linked to.  Read what Fred’s team at St. Simons Community Church has been playing and then check out all the other churches as well.
