New songs for modern missional worship, rich in Christian teaching and contextualized in modern culture. Contemporary hymns, psalms, songs of lament and praise written by members of the Louisville, KY-based Sojourn Community.
One of the typical comments we receive from those familar with our Before the Throne CD goes something like this: “Who is the dude singing? He’s amazing.”
His name is Brooks Ritter. He’s a worship leader and songwriter here at Sojourn, and he also performs his own music in venues around Louisville and the larger region, having shared the stage with artists like Derek Webb and Ben Sollee. Brooks’ solo project is in the final mixing stage in Nashville right now. One of the many compelling songs on this album, “Bones from the Ground,” is featured above on a video captured at Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Louisville during Brooks’ recent show there.
You can hear a studio track at Brooks’ Myspace page, but you really have to watch the video to see the energy that he brings to a performance. One of the best things about a Brooks Ritter show is the infectious enthusiasm he displays and the way he relates to the music and to the audience.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have written a few songs with Brooks, including “Lead us Back” from Before the Throne, and a song called “Living Faith” that will probably be on the next Sojourn CD. Check out the performance above and then read Will Kotheimer’s interview with Brooks from last fall.

I should also mention that the percussionist is Matt Harris, another Sojourn Music worship team member. Matt often plays in Brooks’ solo shows and has sat in with many other artists around Louisville.
