New songs for modern missional worship, rich in Christian teaching and contextualized in modern culture. Contemporary hymns, psalms, songs of lament and praise written by members of the Louisville, KY-based Sojourn Community.
I hope you’ve enjoyed some of the articles from this past week here on sojournmusic.com: information on Sojourn’s upcoming Isaac Watts CD project, a look at our recent worship band auditions, singing instruction from John Wesley, a free songwriting seminar podcast episode featuring Dirt Poor Robins and a free mp3 of a Brooks Ritter worship song that we debuted last Sunday in our worship services.
Also, check out my feature article at theworshipcommunity.com on building a songwriting community in your church. Then visit godsmac.com to hear a podcast interview with my fellow Sojourn communications team deacon Aaron Marshall on his iPods4Africa mission as well as a discussion of social media in light of the work he does for us at Sojourn, for Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, as well as other ministries through his site, churchsmo.com.
Next week on sojournmusic.com we’ll have the regular “Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs” feature, looking at the music from this weekend’s services. I’ll also interview worship leader Lorie King (currently on mission in Brazil) about the difference between worship leading and worship modeling. Then we’ll publish an article about Sojourn’s first book (and details about our book reading later this month at the Lifeway store inside the campus of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) and one on the themes, characteristics and literary devices found in the Psalms, and more.
For now, check out a brand new video episode of my fan-cam feature “Bounding Down The Halls,” where I wander around in Sojourn’s home, The 930 Art Center, filming parts of the building and talking about it. This week I stumbled into the children’s playground. You can check it out from my personal Facebook page or on Youtube.
Also, read this short article in major Louisville weekly paper The Leo Weekly on The Sandpaper Dolls, including quotes from Sojourn worship leader/songwriter Rebecca Dennison, one-third of the Sandpaper Dolls. I interviewed Rebecca about the Sandpaper Dolls for the Sojournmusic.com Radio podcast shortly after their first performance. They’ve been performing more and more often lately, wowing fans of the Louisville music scene.
