Songwriting Seminar Broadcast Featuring Dirt Poor Robins Now Available For Free In Its Entirety

neilandkate-1.jpgThis past April, the award-winning songwriting/ performing duo Neil and Kate Robins gave a comprehensive talk on songwriting at Sojourn’s home, The 930 Art Center.  Neil and Kate have written and performed songs on our last two recordings, Before the Throne and Advent Songs, and Neil is producing one of the two CDs on our upcoming double-CD project, for which he and Kate will contribute more of their material.  In fact, look for a collaboration or two between Neil and myself on this CD, which is quite an honor for me.

kate-robins.jpgWe had some problems with the recording equipment during their seminar, but we’ve been able to upload a continuous audio of the entire event to our podcast, Sojournmusic.com Radio.  Download it for free at iTunes or another podcast directory, or listen to it by clicking the player below.

Keep in mind that this continuous version begins running a minute before we actually started, giving you the chance to hear me addressing the live crowd.  You’ll also hear some nonsensical banter between Neil and I about the blue-ness of my eyes.  But then, the lesson begins as Neil and Kate start out by tracing their own artistic progress before giving a comprehensive talk about the nature of songwriting and many “tricks of the trade” they’ve learned along the way.

neil-robins.jpgThe track is quite long, at 2 hours, 40 minutes, but I’d encourage anyone interested in songwriting to download it — perhaps for listening in your car or whenever you have some time.  Otherwise, you’ll learn something nifty during just about any short segment that you choose to visit.  At the 62-minute mark we took a break but the tape kept rolling (during which you can hear Kate answering questions from members of the audience).  The lecture begins again at the 75 minute mark.
