cool post. we don't hold open auditions. we're a church of about 5200, and i think the worship guys think that it would be insane. people usually just seek out the staff leadership, and they enter the audition process:

1. we need to hear a tape of you sing. lots of people these days are coming to us with their own demos. but if they aren't able to do that, we supply them with a tape recorder (how 1989 is that?!) to do an initial recording. you'd be surprised, but this actually serves as a "weeder course" of sorts... some people just don't want to do this. if we've ever let those people through to stage 2, most of the time it's a "no." This tape gets turned in with a written application complete with references about lifestyle, etc...

2. audition with our two worship pastors. depending on the instrument, this may turn out to be a jam session to see how they can fit into a band. when i auditioned, i just sat a piano with our worship pastor and sang. this part also includes a formal interview about thoughts on worship, daily walk with God, etc.

3. If you pass the top 2, it should work... but we do ask that you attend and jam at a worship team rehearsal. this does allow the person who is auditioning to see behind the scenes at the work/commitment involved. sometimes at this stage, the person backs away.

because we're multi-site (on and off-site) we have about 20 worship teams going - on every other week.

you can check out some of our originals here: http://www.adabible.org/ministries/worship_arts/kingdom/kingdom_coming_down.php

thanks again for putting this post out there... it so great to see what others are doing.
