Sojourners Get First Glimpse Of Next Worship CD

by Bobby Gilles on February 25, 2008

Last Sunday, those attending Sojourn’s Sunday worship services heard the first of the songs that we will be recording for our next major worship CD.  Sung by Jamie Barnes (the song’s composer) in our two morning services and Brooks Ritter in our evening services, the tune immediately caught on with the gathered worshippers.

It was a powerful moment of the service and confirmed what I knew when I heard Jamie’s demo during the song-collecting process for our upcoming CD, before turning all demos over to Worship Arts Pastor Mike Cosper and co-producer Neil Robins: this is a great new congregational song.  Its message is deep yet easily understandable, with a melody that paints the text well, and is both catchy and singable.

The next morning I checked out the Sojourn membership’s private message board and was surprised to find a lively discussion of the new song already underway.

Here are excerpts from a few of the forty-six posts from Sojourn members:

it was so beautiful and really resonated with me. what a great reminder of the life to come.

that song is STUPID awesome — the perfect combination of theologically deep lyrics, a gorgeous tune and a singable melody, as evidenced by the fact that even the 7:00 folks were singing it at the top of their lungs. Fantastic.

Thanks be to God and JESUS our Savior who makes this truth in this song possible for us.
i’ve been thinking about it all day long. s’awesome.

I can’t wait till we have a recording and can share this new song with all of you, as well as the other songs that will be a part of the next CD.  It’s an ambitious project that demanded a lot from the Sojourn songwriters, but I believe that God will bless and use their efforts.
