Union University Hit By Tornado

union-watters-complex.jpgTornados tore through Jackson, Tennessee, home of Union University, on Tuesday evening, striking the university hard.  Union has posted a series of photos of damage and injuries caused by the tornados, and some rescues, on their Facebook page.

We’ve previously talked about the worship conference featuring, among others, Sojourn pastors Mike Cosper and Daniel Montgomery that is scheduled for next week, February 14-16.  We were unable to receive clarification today on the status of that conference but we’ll keep you posted.

Union has published an official site for emergency information.  According to Union President Dockery, fifty-one students were taken to the hospital, nine with serious injuries, but none lost their lives — including the thirteen that had been trapped inside rubble.  Forty percent of the dorms were destroyed, with another forty percent receiving serious damage.

Academic and administrative buildings were damaged, too.  Classes will resume on Monday, February 18, but rebuilding will take much longer.  Thank God that no lives were lost, and pray for all the students and everyone connected with Union as well as the town of Jackson, as they begin to recover and rebuild.
