New songs for modern missional worship, rich in Christian teaching and contextualized in modern culture. Contemporary hymns, psalms, songs of lament and praise written by members of the Louisville, KY-based Sojourn Community.
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
the gospel tells us that God, by the leading of a star,
manifested the Savior to the peoples of the earth,
and, by the power that enabled Christ
to change water into wine, made known his glory to the disciples.
Come then to the joyful feast of the Lord and be transformed.

This is a great reading for setting your mind on Christ as you prepare for the Lord’s Supper, whether you’re meditating on communion while doing your daily devotions at home during the week or whether as part of a corporate worship service on Sunday.
Examples of songs from Sojourn CDs that we also use during communion in our congregational gatherings include the hymn “Before the Throne of God Above” (with melody by Vikki Cook) and “All I Have is Yours,” both from Before the Throne. Other songs we use for this purpose include “In Christ Alone” by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend and “Laden with Guilt and Full of Fears” by Isaac Watts and Sandra McCracken.
Note: Over the next week on sojournmusic.com, I’ll post in detail about what many of us learned from Jamie Barnes at the songwriting seminar he led for Sojourn last week. And later on, I’ll also post mp3 files from a talk Sojourn Worship Arts Pastor Mike Cosper gave on missional worship.
Speaking of songwriting, and more generally, the writing process (whether for sermons, fiction, screenplays, blogs, journalism, etc.) you should check out an informative site I’ve found called Write To Done. It’s an archive for all kinds of thoughts on the writing life and technique, updated at least twice weekly.
